5Rhythms Movement Meditation
So...what is this practice called 5Rhythms anyway?
It is such a curious inquiry- attempting to explain something so magical and yet profoundly mundane with mere words.
But let's try!
The 5Rhythms is a practice that leads to transformation.
As the creator, Gabrielle Roth, said - "Put the body in motion, and the psyche will heal itself."
This is a beloved, global practice of human animals choosing commUNITY and connection.
We come together to move, sweat and BE.
The 5Rhythms is a cosmology of Maps designed to guide you home to yourself.
It is the dance - and so very much more.
For myself, it is a lifestyle... a way of BEing fully expressed and fully myself in a culture defined by shame and control.
It is a revolutionary act to be wholly yourself - and the 5Rhythms is a practice that can support such a process.
Everyone is welcome on the dance floor, regardless of any individual differences such as culture, race, age, body shape, gender identity, sexual preference, religion, or
life experience.
We create a group animal where everyone learns to be fully expressed while also navigating shared space and how we are all connected and impacted by each other.
We heal together, feel our feelings together, play together, create together.
We find trust in our own body, trust in the group, trust in the process that is life & death.
We learn the skills needed in these tumultuous times.
We learn how to be with discomfort, how to let go, how to share territory... all with the creativity and clarity of the body.
We simply move together and see what happens in the Mystery.
We remember how to be a human animal.
The 5Rhythms is a dynamic movement practice—a practice of being in your body—that ignites creativity, connection, and community.
While a seemingly simple process, the 5Rhythms practice facilitates deep and unending explorations, moving the dancer beyond self-imposed limitations and isolation into new depths of creativity and connection.
Within our practice, we explore the 5Rhythms:
FLOWING ~ The Rhythm of Earth. Feet. Circular. Receive. Roots. Grounded. Letting it in.
STACCATO ~ The Rhythm of Fire. Hips & HeART. Angles & Edges. Respond. Focus. Letting it out.
CHAOS ~ The Rhythms of Water. Head. Unpredictable. Breakthrough. Release. Letting it go.
LYRICAL ~ The Rhythm of Air. Hands. Creative. Relief. Rebirth. Letting go of letting go.
STILLNESS ~ The Rhythm of Ether. Breath. Shapes. Rest. Dissolve. Letting it BE.
These rhythms articulate different ways of BEing, of moving energy, of exploring our inner wilderness as well as the environment outside of the body.
These 5Rhythms awaken within us our instinct & intuition, offer us deeper intimacy with Self and Other, open us to our own inborn creativity and imagination while connecting us to the inspiration of Mystery herself...
As our practice deepens, we explore more Maps : Waves, Shadows, Heartbeat, Cycles, Mirrors,
God Sex & the Body
This is a lifelong practice that can guide you with grace through all ages and stages of life.
For myself, my 5Rhythms practice has gifted me a sense of primal divinity.
I know I am a Soul in an animal body - and that fills me with gratitude for this one precious ride and a sense of peace that I did not have before I began this practice.
In my dance, I experience timelessness and a calm honouring of all that is without needing to change it, control it, fix it or hide it.
My 5Rhythms practice taught me compassion for Self and Other, softness, safety within my own skin, dynamism and how to relax into the risky business of being a Creative.
The 5Rhythms have taught me how to live with dignity and in full acceptance of my
own humanity.
The 5Rhythms allowed me to fully love myself - which helped me learn to fully love all things.
Gabrielle also said "There is only one of us here."
This devotional practice offers a pathway to this level of knowing - a path to the Unified Field. A place where our feet meet in the beat and we become what we have always been -
a needed part within a whole.
I am so curious what your 5Rhythms practice might teach you!
